Shadow Creek High School
Alvin Independent School District

Lauren is a native Houstonian and has been a math teacher for over seven years. She began teaching at Shadow Creek High School (SCHS), where she remains to this day. Lauren received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Sam Houston State University in 2016 and her Master of Education in Leadership from Lamar University in 2020.

She creates engaging, student-centered activities that are differentiated to meet the needs of all students. Lauren encourages students to discover their learning styles and use critical thinking skills to come up with solutions. The results of Lauren’s efforts are seen in her students’ test results. Lauren leads Shark U, an after-school tutoring program, and under her guidance 50% of Algebra 1 re-testers passed their STAAR EOC assessment in December, compared to 37% in the previous year.

Lauren’s distinguished leadership extends outside her classroom. She has served as Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 Team Lead, Climate Committee President, STAAR Intervention Coordinator, District Math Curriculum Writer and Co-Coordinator of Shark Day (SCHS’s community and feeder elementary track and field event). She has participated in the Teacher Advisory Council, Future Administrators Academy, Strategic Planning Committee, and serves as an Administrator Intern and Substitute. Lauren also supports student efforts by serving as the GSA Club and the National Honor Society sponsor and attends the numerous events, shows, games and activities her students invite her to.
