YES Prep Public Schools

Justine has taught sixth-grade math for the past 11 years at YES Prep Southwest Secondary. She graduated from Texas Christian University with her master’s degree in education.

In addition to traditional classroom teaching methodology, Justine also combines technology, manipulatives and outside learning experiences like after-school clubs, field trips and athletics to make math connections for her students. Justine’s students leave her class with a deep understanding that math is embedded all around us. Over her career, she has consistently received high student test scores, and during the 2021-2022 school year, her students achieved the highest results in STAAR scores for Math 6 within the district.

Justine at Minute Maid ParkJustine goes above and beyond for her students, supporting their individual needs. She understands the importance of showing up for her students inside and outside the classroom. She can be found in tutorials working with students late into the evenings, on weekends and even on Zoom when she's not able to be present in-person. Her care, love and support for students goes far beyond the confines of her classroom. She also supports her students’ athletic and fine-art events, as well as life events like quinceañeras, birthday parties and family events.

During her time teaching at YES Prep Southwest, she has served as grade level chair, led the yearbook program and helped write curriculum for the district. She has been designated as an exemplar teacher through the Teacher Incentive Allotment and is a 2022 Kinder Excellence in Teaching Award recipient.
