Katy Independent School District
Eric Rocha is a fifth-grade math teacher at Faldyn Elementary in Katy Independent School District. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Texas Tech University, graduating with honors. Now in his third year of teaching math, he serves as a model teacher on his campus and a MAP ambassador. His accomplishments include recognition as a Math Model Teacher and nomination for Rookie Teacher of the Year.
In his classroom, Eric blends clear, direct instruction with hands-on activities that make math relevant and engaging. He uses interactive tools such as iPads, Smartboards and Chromebooks, along with problem-solving challenges that encourage students to take academic risks. He also helps students maintain data folders so they can track their progress, understand their strengths and set goals.
Beyond daily instruction, Eric offers tutoring multiple days a week, stays in close contact with families and checks in regularly with students. On campus, he leads grade-level math planning, presents during vertical alignment meetings, chairs committees and co-teaches to mentor new teachers.
