Emilio Medina is a sixth-grade math teacher at Marshall Middle School in Houston, Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in psychology from the University of Houston-Downtown before returning to the Near Northside neighborhood where he grew up to serve as an educator. Emilio has spent the last six years as a classroom teacher and has worked with youth in the area for over 15 years.

Emilio’s dedication to his students is evident in their academic achievements. By working with students to create personalized goals, he has achieved the highest growth on campus for the 2023-2024 STAAR. His classroom achieved an 18% increase in “Meets Grade Level” standard with overall growth for 32% of his students.

In addition to his teaching role, Emilio has been a campus baseball coach and the leader of the campus Video Game Club. Emilio was nominated for Teacher of the Year three years in a row and was awarded the title in 2021 at Marshall Middle School. Additionally, he was honored with his own Day by the City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner for his contributions to the city.
