profile of Chante Gordon

Turner Elementary
Pasadena Independent School District

Chante Gordon is a third-grade math teacher at Turner Elementary School, currently in her fifth year of teaching. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in mathematics instruction from Western Governors University.

Chante believes that using math to teach critical thinking and problem-solving skills is essential for fostering lifelong learners. In her classroom, students engage in "math talk" to examine and explain various mental math strategies for solving equations. They participate in "choral counting" to identify patterns in numbers and use problem-solving models and academic language to articulate their thinking. Additionally, Chante incorporates music into her lessons, with students singing along to "skip counting" songs while she plays the ukulele.

Beyond the classroom, Chante volunteers with the Robotics Club. She introduced a Math Family Game Night to her campus and created Math Bingo questions to encourage math discussions among families. Chante also co-founded the SMILE Squad at Turner Elementary, a club that promotes a positive campus culture through acts of kindness. Chante frequently presents at staff faculty meetings and was selected to speak at the Region 4 Math Conference. A member of the Emerging Teacher Leaders in Pasadena ISD, Chante was honored by her peers as Teacher of the Year on campus in the 2024-2025 school year.
