Safety is our first SPIRIT Value — the safety of our workforce always comes first. We focus on control of work through training, job preparation, implementation of safe work practices, regular assurance and applying lessons learned to drive HSE improvement.

We focus on reducing human error by emphasizing interaction among people, equipment and work processes. By applying a learning mindset, human performance concepts and being alert to what could go wrong, we are increasing our capacity to safely manage risk.

For over a decade, our Life Saving Rules have been the foundation of our safety culture. The rules, based on industry lessons learned and best practices, help prevent serious or fatal injuries and keep our employees and contractors focused on safe work execution at our sites.

The rules include visual reminders and easy-to-follow minimum requirements, called critical controls, to protect our workforce during high-risk activities. Life Saving Rule identification and critical controls are addressed through pre-job planning, permits and risk assessment processes. Our leaders routinely go to the worksite to verify these critical controls are in place and effective during work execution.

Our work is never so urgent or important that we cannot take the time to do it safely and in an environmentally responsible mannor.

TRR graphs

We compare our workforce Total Recordable Rate (TRR) with that of our peers in the oil and gas industry, as well as other industries. Over the past eight years, we have maintained top-quartile TRR performance relative to our peers. In 2025, we recorded zero fatalities and achieved significant reductions in serious incidents compared to the previous year.
