Tanker

Gathering and feeder pipelines often end at marine terminals or offshore platform loading facilities, where the crude oil is loaded into tankers or barges for transport to crude trunk pipelines or refineries. For downstream companies, petroleum products also are transported from refineries to distribution terminals by tanker and barge.

Polar Tankers

In our North Slope operations, we manage marine transportation through our wholly owned subsidiary, Polar Tankers, Inc. This includes 5 company-owned, double-hulled tankers, each with a million-barrel capacity and state-of-the-art redundant systems for environmental safety. We also charter additional third-party vessels, as necessary, to support our operations.

Polar Tankers operates five Endeavour-class tankers in the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline System (TAPS) trade, loading crude oil in the Port of Valdez, Alaska, and delivering to terminals within Puget Sound, Washington, San Francisco and Los Angeles/Long Beach, California and Hawaii.

All 260 seagoing personnel of Polar Tankers operate in an operationally safe, environmentally friendly and ethical manner. They ensure operations comply with all local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Marine superintendents also engage in environmental outreach and partnerships within the communities served by our operation.

Tankers transport natural gas, liquefied to reduce its volume significantly, from producers to consumers. A leader in the LNG business, we license our Optimized Cascade® process for use around the world. After the natural gas is converted to LNG, it can be loaded onto a specially designed tanker, transported to a consuming country and re-gasified for continued transportation.
