ConocoPhillips China (COPC) recently launched a program with cosponsor Enactus China to inspire post-graduate students to pursue studies in oil and gas. The FUTURE Energy Innovation Research Project (FUTURE) encourages study of the technical disciplines that will be essential as China strives to meet its growing energy needs and reach United Nations sustainable development goals.

“We believe that education is the driving force of the future and a key to attaining long-term energy supply security for China,” said ConocoPhillips China President Mark Wheeler. The company has also supported corporate social responsibility programs that enhance elementary education and talent cultivation.

More than 70 research teams from 10 targeted colleges and universities nationwide will be invited to compete in the 2018 FUTURE project. They will conduct research on China’s substantial unconventional oil and gas production potential with the goal of identifying innovative solutions to technological challenges while also meeting stringent environmental standards. The winning team will be invited to present its ideas at Enactus’ UN Sustainable Development Goals Forum in San Jose, California, in October 2018.

Enactus is a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. With support from more than 50 corporations, Enactus China now has 286 universities participating in its program.
