Carson Workshop

carson, california Workshop Highlights

ConocoPhillips and the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project hosted their fifth energy education workshop in Carson, Calif. on April 11.

44 teachers from the Carson community, including one from San Diego, participated in the one-day workshop that supplied them with energy information, curriculum materials and science kits to pass on to their students and fellow educators.

Tony Cordero, manager of public affairs for ConocoPhillips Los Angeles refinery, welcomed teachers and presented on the company’s local operations. After an engaging discussion with Cordero on energy challenges and meeting needs of the future, the teachers spent the day with trainers from NEED and learned how they can incorporate energy into their classroom through interactive science experiments and games.

Feedback from the teachers included that energy education is often difficult to understand, but that the event made it easy as the ideas are logical, sound and practical for everyday learning.

ConocoPhillips will host a total of 24 energy workshops across the United States during 2008.
