SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS
Through its partnership with the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, ConocoPhillips hosted its tenth energy education workshop for teachers in Santa Maria, Calif. on May 12.
The one-day workshop provided 25 teachers from San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria with energy information tailored to meet California’s education standards. K-12 teachers spent the day learning about energy issues through lessons and science experiments and left with energy information, curriculum materials and science kits to help teach their students about energy. In addition to sharing their new energy knowledge with students, many teachers were eager to share the information and experiments with fellow educators.
Teachers also learned about the energy industry from Jim Anderson, HSE head at ConocoPhillips’ Santa Maria refinery. Anderson answered questions about the company’s local operations and discussed ConocoPhillips’ longstanding commitment to education as well as the company’s support of a solid energy policy.
ConocoPhillips will host a total of 24 energy workshops across the United States during 2008.
