NEED 2008 Conference for Educators in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

From July 20 to 24, approximately 75 teachers and educational administrators from across the United States participated in the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project’s 2008 Energy Conference for Educators in Las Vegas, Nev.

The five-day conference, presented by ConocoPhillips, brought together educators from Puerto Rico to California to learn about energy and discuss creative ways to incorporate energy into their classrooms.

Throughout the week, attendees studied various sources and forms of energy through hands-on activities. Primary, intermediate and high school teachers had the opportunity to learn about energy from a student’s perspective by experimenting with several energy kits, playing energy trivia games and performing skits and songs about energy.

Attendees left the conference with new knowledge about energy and grade-appropriate, standards-based curriculum. Teachers who attended also were able to receive graduate credit for their participation in the conference.

Teachers also learned about the energy industry through a presentation from ConocoPhillips on energy security and climate change, as well as a field trip to the Yucca Mountain Visitor’s Center and tours of the Hoover Dam.

NEED held another Energy Conference for Educators in Galveston, Texas earlier in July. In addition to the company’s support for the conferences, ConocoPhillips will host 24 one-day energy workshops across the United States during 2008.
