ConocoPhillips is investing time and resources to develop new technologies that will help secure America’s energy future.
ConocoPhillips is developing the ability to convert widely available carbon sources to a variety of useful products, like natural gas, diesel fuel, steam and hydrogen. One such technology is E-GasTM Gasification, a process that converts solids, primarily coal and petcoke, into a syngas (hydrogen and carbon monoxide), which can then be used as fuel for gas turbines to produce electric power and steam. ConocoPhillips believes E-GasTM has a prominent place in the mix of power generation plant options in the next wave of global investment, particularly in rapidly growing energy consuming countries such as India and China. ConocoPhillips’ technology is cost-efficient and reduces sulfur dioxide emissions to less than one-tenth of that required by the U.S. Clean Air Act. E-GasTM also provides options for carbon dioxide capture.
Additionally, ConocoPhillips recently expanded its research and development commitment by forming a Technology and Major Projects organization. Major projects include developing alternative fuels and enhanced environmental technology through carbon capture and storage, and water conservation.
