Spokane was the 21st stop on a 35-city Conversation on Energy tour – a town hall forum to address issues involving our nation’s energy future. Approximately 210 residents from communities throughout eastern Washington gathered on Aug. 9 to discuss the energy policy, issues and potential solutions at the meeting, co-hosted by ConocoPhillips and Washington State University (WSU) Spokane. With support from 20 community partners – including Greater Spokane Incorporated, Washington State Farm Bureau, and the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Gonzaga University – residents, business leaders, industry officials, and a panel of experts gathered to discuss securing our country’s energy future.
Carin Knickel, vice president of human resources, and Lou Burke, manager of biofuels, represented ConocoPhillips on the panel. Other panelists included Read Smith, national steering committee co-chair for the 25x ‘25 Renewable Energy Alliance; Kenneth Humphreys, director of carbon management solutions for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory; and Rich Baden, executive director of the Spokane County Conservation District. Dr. Brian Pitcher, chancellor of WSU Spokane, served as the panel’s moderator.
