It’s the people at ConocoPhillips who make the company great. Their commitment to excellence extends far beyond the company. They are the driving force behind all of our volunteer activities and their dedication allows us to continue to support our communities.
ConocoPhillips has longstanding relationships with numerous respected non-profit organizations. By donating time, knowledge and financial support to these organizations, employees around the world touch thousands of lives each year in their local communities. We recognize that by investing our time and money in public service we assume a sense of responsibility for making those programs successful, which is why we monitor our investments carefully, making sure they align with our goals and continue to progress in a manner consistent with our core SPIRIT values.
Involvement in community projects fuels individual passions, develops employee skills, facilitates teamwork and helps employees understand and appreciate the interdependence between our company and the communities where we do business. In addition to their involvement with company-sponsored programs, employees are personally involved with organizations that are not directly affiliated with ConocoPhillips. To demonstrate support for employees and their respective involvement with these institutions, the company offers grants to help fund various needs and programs.
Employee Volunteerism Rebuilding Together ConocoPhillips is actively involved with Rebuilding Together to provide low-income homeowners, particularly elderly and disabled families, with renovated, energy-efficient homes. In partnership with communities, ConocoPhillips helps the organization reach its goal of making a sustainable impact so more low-income homeowners can live in dignity and comfort. ConocoPhillips has joined the American Petroleum Institute on the Rebuilding Together initiative to help train the affiliates to include energy efficiency as a core component of home renovation. The company has helped renovate and ensure that numerous homes are safe and energy efficient.
ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run
When the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo kicks off each year to raise scholarship funds for Texas youth, ConocoPhillips leads the pack with its 5K/10K road race, which precedes the annual parade downtown. Since the race began in 1988, the ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run has raised more than $1.8 million for student scholarships. The entire race is coordinated and managed by more than 1,100 ConocoPhillips volunteers, including ConocoPhillips employees, retirees, contractors, family members and friends who help plan and administer the race from start to finish, allowing the company to contribute entry fee proceeds to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Educational Fund. The Rodeo Run has been named one of the top 100 races in the nation by Runner's World magazine and one of Houston's top races by the Houston Chronicle and the Houston Press.
Special Olympics Whether it's creating an Olympic Town for athlete fun and education between competitions, providing athlete growth and employment opportunities at our convenience stores, coordinating fundraisers or helping an athlete cross the finish line, our employees are committed to embracing differences and improving the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities. By volunteering at Special Olympics events in the United States and Russia, ConocoPhillips employees help make the day special for thousands of athletes.
Employee Grants and Funding Employee Volunteer Grant Program In addition to participating in community outreach programs sponsored by ConocoPhillips, employees volunteer hands-on with numerous organizations not directly affiliated with our company. To support these non-profit charitable organizations and promote employee volunteerism, ConocoPhillips offers the Employee Volunteer Grant Program. By volunteering their time, employees in the United States enable organizations to receive up to $6,000 in grants per year from ConocoPhillips to defray costs for programs and events, making a positive and important difference in their communities.
Matching Gift Program One of the many ways ConocoPhillips supports education is through its Matching Gift Program. This program provides matching funds to employees, dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000 annually for every gift made to K-12 schools and universities. Retired ConocoPhillips employees are matched 50 cents for every dollar they contribute up to $5,000. In 2006, the company matched nearly 3,500 employee gifts for a combined total of $6.1 million.
