Diversifying our Energy Sources

While, according to the Energy Information Administration, oil and gas will be the world’s primary source of energy for decades to come, ConocoPhillips is working on a range of technologies to secure renewable fuels and energy sources for the long-term while acquiring new supplies of oil and gas for the short-term.

  • Through an alliance with Archer Daniels Midland, we are developing the next generation of renewable fuels from non-food sources like corn stalks, wood scraps and switchgrass. Learn More
  • ConocoPhillips also has formed a strategic research alliance with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Iowa State University to identify promising cellulosic biomass conversation technologies to make liquid transportation fuels from plants. Learn More
  • These recent initiatives complement our existing programs with Tyson Foods to convert animal fat into clean-burning diesel fuel and our partnership with Iowa State University to conduct biofuel research in hopes of developing new energy sources.  Learn More

We’re also finding new, environmentally responsible opportunities to use some of America’s most abundant natural resources – coal and natural gas. ConocoPhillips and Peabody Energy are studying the viability of a commercial-scale coal-to-gas facility that would help diversify our energy supply by producing as much as 1.5 trillion cubic feet of clean-burning natural gas over the life of the project. Learn More

The company also is working to improve methods of water purification and recycling, and is currently constructing a global water sustainability center in Doha, Qatar, to further this research.  Learn More
