Classed by the American Bureau of Shipping, Polar Adventure is an Endeavour Class tanker in the ConocoPhillips U.S. flag fleet and is specifically designed to carry crude oil from Alaska to the West Coast and Hawaii. The vessel's sister ships, Polar Endeavour, Polar Resolution and Polar Discovery, were commissioned in 2001, 2002 and 2003, respectively.

"Like her sisters, Polar Adventure is an outstanding vessel," said Antonio Valdes, general manager of ConocoPhillips' marine division. "Her delivery brings ConocoPhillips another step closer to fulfilling its goal of operating an all double-hulled tanker fleet by 2008."

Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in Avondale, La., built the state-of-the art tankers. Endeavour Class vessels have double hulls with 10 feet of space between the inner and outer hulls, two independent engine rooms, redundant propulsion and twin steering systems, a bow thruster and state of the art navigation systems.

"Northrop Grumman is to be commended for their unparalleled workmanship and dedication to deliver this fleet," said Valdes.

One final Endeavour Class tanker is currently under construction at the Avondale shipyard and is scheduled for delivery in 2005.
