HOUSTON, September 16, 2004 – ConocoPhillips Company, a leading global petroleum company and the fourth largest lubricants supplier in the U.S., has joined forces with worldwide chemical specialty products developer Quaker Chemical to offer its Quintolubric® 814 universal longwall mining fluids to underground mining customers. ConocoPhillips maintains a significant presence in the mining industry by offering a variety of products, services and programs to help maintain capital intensive equipment, and will now market Quaker's award-winning longwall fluid to increase customer options, according to Walt Silveira, director, industrial products, ConocoPhillips Lubricants.
"Working with Quaker Chemical has been a great experience and we are confident our customers will appreciate gaining access to such incredible, technologically advanced products," said Silveira. "ConocoPhillips is always on the lookout for ways to provide mining customers with even greater value, and aligning ourselves with an industry innovator that understands the core fundamentals of emulsion chemistry and hydraulic application technology enables us to offer a versatile and reliable specialty lubricant that will ultimately give our underground mining customers a competitive edge."
ConocoPhillips and Quaker Chemical will have a joint presence at MINExpo 2004 to announce the relationship and share product benefits with those working within the mining segment. In 2003, Lubricants World named Quaker Quintolubric® 814 "Industrial Product of the Year," noting its ability to adapt to a wide range of water chemistries under highly varied conditions. Due to the product's flexibility, a mine needs to stock only one fluid for all its longwall equipment, for any use, in any season. This specialty product was only recently introduced to the United States two years ago after having been used in Australian longwall mines for more than twenty trouble-free years.
"We are very excited to have a strategic alliance with one of the leading providers of lubricants to the mining industry," said Kevin Dickey, U.S. fluid power product manager, Quaker Chemical. ConocoPhillips' expertise in providing full-range lubrication solutions to underground customers combined with the superior product performance of the Quintolubric® 814 series will provide customers with tremendous synergies and technical advantages.
Available in versions for various use concentrations, Quintolubric® 814 fluids are translucent amber green solutions containing a dye for easy underground leak detection. Approved by both major longwall manufacturers DBT and Joy Machinery, Quintolubric® 814 fluids prevent rust, are compatible with commonly used fluids and also exhibit excellent environmental characteristics, including non-toxicity to fish. The fluid is readily biodegradable in accordance with ISO 7827, with no bacterial or fungal infestation experienced in 20 years of service.
