WATKINS, Colo. – ConocoPhillips presented a $150,000 grant to support the city of Aurora’s Recreation Division at last night’s city council meeting. The grant will support the organization’s mission to serve a diverse array of residents through programs that encourage active lifestyles, with a specific focus on serving Aurora’s youth and enhancing existing programs already offered including, after school programs, aquatics, sports, therapeutic recreation and day camps.
The funds will target the following uses:
- Offer low cost after school programs to provide enrichment activities in technology, sports and the visual arts.
- Provide free and reduced-fee swim lessons at Moorhead Pool, Parklane Pool, Del Mar Pool and Village Green Pool.
- Purchase sports equipment to reduce the financial burden on parents.
- Support the city’s efforts with regard to participation in Special Olympics sports.
- Offer reduced fees for youth day camps.

“We are honored to have been selected for this highly competitive grant, which benefits families across Aurora,” said Byron Fanning, Manager with Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space. “These funds will support free and reduced-price programs, targeting underserved youth in our city in an effort to keep them active in our camps and at our pools and recreation centers.”
The city of Aurora’s Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department mission is to encourage active lifestyles and create healthy environments for people, nature and community.
ConocoPhillips has a longstanding commitment to Colorado. Since 2013, the company has given a total of $4.1 million to support universities and organizations in the state. Of this amount, approximately $1.1 million funded local community initiatives to improve education, health, safety and natural resources. The remainder of the donation established the ConocoPhillips Center for a Sustainable WE²ST (Water-Energy Education, Science and Technology) at Colorado School of Mines.
With an office located in Watkins, ConocoPhillips holds nearly 100,000 net acres in northeast Colorado and has drilled nearly 40 horizontal appraisal wells in the Niobrara Denver-Julesburg basin.
