Jessica Merrill

Jessica joined Tanglewood Middle School in 2007 after teaching for four years at Crete-Monee Middle School in University Park, Illinois. She currently teaches eighth-grade math and Algebra I. She also served for two years as Dean of Students, but missed her true passion – teaching math – and returned to the classroom two years ago. Jessica’s creativity helps her connect math to her students’ everyday lives. This connection helps inspire her students and leads them to mastery.

In addition to her teaching duties, Jessica is the Math Department Chair and coaches both the swim team and Quiz Bowl team. In 2011, she was awarded the Campus Teacher of the Year and her teaching was highlighted in Doug Lemov's Teach Like a Champion 2.0.

Jessica received her bachelor’s degree in Middle Level Teacher Education from Illinois State University and her master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University.
