Exploration and Production

EuropeConocoPhillips gained a nonoperated production interest in the Dutch sector of the North Sea in early 2006 through the acquisition of Burlington Resources.

In the Dutch sector of the North Sea, the company has interests in 3,814 square kilometers of acreage, 36 fields, 28 platforms, 298 kilometers of offshore pipelines, and an onshore natural gas plant and terminal at Den Helder. Approximately 68 percent of production is from the unitized Joint Development area (JDA) operated by NAM. About 27 percent of production is from the southern Q fields (operated by Wintershall). A small portion of the total production is in the mature eastern area (operated by NAM). The northern area includes the F16-E field, which commenced production in November 2005. All production is natural gas. The partly ConocoPhillips-owned WGT (K13-Den Helder), NOGAT and NGT transportation systems deliver natural gas to the European markets.

Exploration and Business Development

Operations were conducted on two near-field exploration wells, one appraisal well and one exploration well in 2006, with operations concluded on all but one of the near-feld wells in 2006. All four wells encountered hydrocarbons and have been financially suspended. Development of one of the near-field wells is scheduled in 2007, and evaluations are under way on future development options for the other near-field well and the appraisal well. The exploration well is scheduled to be further evaluated by an appraisal well in 2007, with potential production startup in 2009.
