Exploration and Production

Africa ConocoPhillips holds interests in three main oil fields located in Block 405a in Algeria. All crude oil production is transported to northern Algerian ports where it is lifted to tankers and marketed primarily to refineries in Europe and North America.

Menzel Lejmat North (MLN)
Operator: ConocoPhillips (65.0%)
Co-venturer: Talisman (35.0%)

Discovered in 1996, the field began producing in 2003. Produced oil is gathered through the MLN central processing facility before being exported. The MLN expansion project, which will increase field production and reserves through additional pressure maintenance, is expected to be completed in 2008.

El Merk (EMK)
Operator: Groupement Berkine (37.7% on behalf of Sonatrach) Co-venturers: Anadarko (18.1%), ConocoPhillips (16.9%), Eni
(9.1%), Talisman (9.1%), Maersk (9.1%)

The EMK field, originally discovered in 1992, is in the final development planning stage and will be produced with other fields through the El Merk facility. First production is expected in early 2012.
