ThruPlus® technology produces maximum liquid yield and is commercially proven with operations at ConocoPhillips sites, joint-venture units, and licensee facilities.
Improved Operability and Reliability. Our cokers achieve in excess of six-year run lengths between turnarounds, along with availability factors of greater than 96 percent, including downtime for turnarounds. Ongoing exchanges between our engineering group, researchers, refineries and licensees promote continual improvements in both operability and reliability.
Reduced Coke Yield & Optimal Liquid Yield. The ThruPlus® process reduces coke yield by approximately three to four weight percent when compared to conventional delayed coking processes. This yield advantage is based on utilizing distillate recycle technology and zero natural recycle. The reduction in coke yield corresponds to an equivalent increase in higher-valued liquid products.
High On-stream Factor. Higher on-stream factors are achieved through a proprietary furnace design methodology that provides optimal run time between decokes, as well as from incorporating key learnings from ConocoPhillips’ facilities into designs. Furthermore, the coke handling system provides make-up capacity that allows routine and preventative maintenance, so total unit throughput is not impacted by unplanned downtime.
Feedstock Flexibility and Expertise. ConocoPhillips has an extensive background in coking vacuum residual from a variety of crude types produced around the world and has demonstrated commercial expertise with demanding feedstocks such as bitumen produced from tar sands and SDA or ROSE™ pitches.
Robust Coke Drum Design. Our design approach takes into account drum fatigue at elevated temperatures. This results in a coke drum that is bulge resistant, minimizing maintenance costs. Using these design correlations, 30-year drum life can be achieved. Our Ponca City and Lake Charles No. 2 cokers, producing anode- and fuel-grade coke respectively, operate on 10-hour cycles and are each more than 20-years-old with no planned replacement.
Ongoing Technical Development. Recent advances have been made in coke drum life studies, safety interlock evaluations, coke fines removal methods, flash zone gas oil processing options, asphaltene stability testing, and coking propensity studies.
Best-Qualified, Most-Experienced Delayed Coking Licensor. Our experienced engineering team is able to draw upon the knowledge of operating and maintenance personnel from ConocoPhillips’ own coker facilities to aid in design improvements, start-up efforts and optimization initiatives.
Complete Life-cycle Support. Experienced operations and maintenance personnel are available for new unit training and start-up support as well as ongoing consulting services to licensed cokers. Preferred partnerships with Bechtel Corp. and D-Cōk deliver value across the course of the project, and a broad range of all types of support services are available.
