REACH

What is REACH?

REACH is a new European Union (EU) Community Regulation (EC 1907/2006) pertaining to chemicals and their safe use. REACH stands for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. This regulation first became effective on June 1, 2007 and requires EU companies to register their chemical substances before placing them on the EU market. Implementation of REACH will occur over the next decade.

ConocoPhillips' Position on REACH

ConocoPhillips is supportive of the underlying goal of REACH to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic hazards of chemical substances.

What is ConocoPhillips Doing to Address REACH?

ConocoPhillips has established a multidisciplinary team of approximately 30 individuals, involving both business and HSE functions. This team, working closely with external industry organizations such as the Conservation of Clean Air and Water in Europe (CONCAWE), has helped to prepare ConocoPhillips to comply with REACH. This project was featured in ConocoPhillips' spirit Magazine.

ConocoPhillips is working to ensure that all substances it manufactures within or imports into the EU are registered in a timely manner. At this time, with very limited exceptions, ConocoPhillips is not registering those substances which it neither produces within the EU or imports. ConocoPhillips Business Unit contacts are aware of which limited substances have been registered as exceptions to ConocoPhillips policy. To the extent feasible, ConocoPhillips will continue to coordinate with our customers and suppliers throughout this implementation process.

Further Questions

Customers and suppliers with specific questions regarding REACH should consult their ConocoPhillips Business Unit Contact. Other questions can be submitted to: REACH@conocophillips.com.

Answers provided by these contacts will necessarily be of a general nature. ConocoPhillips does not have any contractual or regulatory responsibility for REACH compliance for imports or products produced by others. We strongly recommend that each company obtain its own legal advice regarding its responsibilities and obligations pursuant to the REACH legislation.
