Increase Availability of Ever Cleaner Energy

Cleaner EnergyWhat we said

  • We will continue working with industry, local communities and government to address air, water, land and local communities’ concerns in the planned development of oil sands.
  • We will sustain resources to actively monitor and assess investment opportunities that meet our criteria in renewable power.

WHAT WE DID

    • Helped found the Oil Sands Leadership Initiative (OSLI) which is working towards a step-change in our industry’s environmental performance and we are actively participating in the water, land, technology breakthrough and sustainable communities working groups.
    • Collaborated with Statoil to participate in the Local Business Facilitation Centre near Fort McMurray.
    • Planted approximately 130,000 trees in two years as part of our Faster Forests program.
    • Formed an investment joint venture, Energy Technology Ventures, with two leading energy companies to invest in start-up companies developing innovative, energy technologies. Several investments have already been made.

WHAT WE PLAN TO DO

    • Use Oil Sand Leadership Initiative (OSLI) learning's and practices to inform our air and water management strategies.
    • Continue to advance a portfolio of technologies to reduce our air, water and land footprint.
    • Continue to implement our Faster Forests program.
    • Continue to analyze prospects and invest in pilot and demonstration facilities, and, pending success, develop commercialization plans for these technologies.
    • Seek to sustain and increase our level of investment in renewable power companies, and in demonstration and commercial prospects.
