Heating Oil Prices This Winter

Heating oil prices averaged about $4.10 a gallon in mid-March, up 23 cents a gallon from the same time last year. Despite an unusually warm winter and lower consumption, prices have been driven up by the high cost of crude oil.

For the entire winter season, heating oil users can expect to spend about $60 less (3 percent) than they did last winter, according to EIA forecasts. Last year at this time, historic blizzards and cold snaps generated strong demand for heating fuels over an extended period of time.

In addition to outside factors, household heating bills are highly influenced by factors such as home insulation, furnace efficiency and personal temperature preferences
